Low Back Pain

Surveys have shown that almost 80% of people in the United States will suffer from low back pain at some point in their lifetimes. The U.S. agency for Health Care Policy and Research recently created a panel of medical experts to review nearly 4,000 studies on acute low back pain. They rejected such treatments as bed rest, surgery (except in rare cases), spinal injections, and oral prescription drugs like antidepressants and steroids. They found, however, that spinal adjustments, the treatment used most often by chiropractors, “can be helpful for patients with acute low back problems.” Another study, in the medical journal Spine, stated that chiropractic care was beneficial for chronic low back pain, as well.

Headaches

Numerous studies have found that chiropractic care helps a variety of headaches, including migraines. Recurring headaches may indicate a problem within the structural elements of the neck and back. There may be an area of decreased motion (subluxation) that is causing swelling and pressure on the nerves that travel into the head, producing the headache. By restoring proper motion to these areas and allowing the nerves to heal, we are often able to relieve patients of their chronic headaches, when no other treatment offered any relief.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is the compression of one of the nerves in the wrist region (median nerve). The median nerve begins at the neck, passes through the shoulder area, down the arm, through the wrist to the hand and first three fingers. This syndrome has become more prevalent due to repetitive micro-trauma of the underside of the wrist, which can be brought about by activities like typing and repetitive lifting for a prolonged period of time. At Payne Chiropractic Center we have helped many people avoid carpal tunnel surgery.

Disc Problems

Discs act like shock absorbers between the bones of the spine. They can tear or bulge if placed under a great amount of stress, usually from trauma, repetitive and improper turning and lifting. Disc problems can often be treated conservatively, through chiropractic care. A thorough examination can determine if your particular problem can be helped through chiropractic care, or if a referral to another healthcare provider is necessary.

Whiplash

Whiplash can be brought about by car accidents, blows to the back in sports, and on the job injuries. Injuries that are left untreated can cause far more serious problems months, or even years down the road. The most common symptoms of whiplash injuries include neck pain, headache, shoulder or arm pain, low back pain, blurred vision, dinging in the ears, nausea, fatigue or weakness, and irritability.
